Wella (UK) Ltd |
Background
In early 2001
Wella, one of the largest hair specialists in the
world, decided to upgrade major areas within their head
office in Basingstoke. The Staff
Restaurant was one of the first
areas
to be revamped and whilst the kitchen was considered
adequate, Wella wanted to introduce a vibrant, more modern
feel to the restaurant that better reflected the company’s
personality. At the same time this was also a good
opportunity to look at the food offering, to ensure it was
right for employees both in terms of variety and price. |

Keith
Carmichael, Senior Consultant at CBS,
immediately saw the potential and, working
closely with specialist design contractors,
started work on redesigning the restaurant
whilst developing a new brief in order to put the
contract out to tender. Wilson Storey Halliday
successfully retained the catering contract and
as part of the new four year agreement funded
part of the new refurbishment and in September
2002, ‘Waves,’ the new restaurant, opened and
was an immediate success. |

Alastair Storey, Managing Director of Wilson Storey Halliday, says
“Wella now has
one of the finest staff restaurants in the South of England.
Customers can choose
from sandwiches and baguettes from the Deli Bar, a range of hot
meals from the
main counter or visit the new internet café. Working with CBS was
very refreshing
and we found them very supportive -they really understand the
business”.
Mark Brown, Support
Services Manager at Wella explains: “I felt that a project of
this magnitude should be managed by specialists. I had used catering
consultants
before but felt that this work required a completely fresh approach.
After speaking
to several companies I selected Catering Business Solutions (CBS) to
manage the
project and I was proved right.”
CBS have been
retained by Wella (UK) Ltd to monitor the contract, which not only
ensures it keeps to the budget but that the quality is maintained,
and continually
improved. As part of the process they will also provide a bi-annual
Food Hygiene &
Safety Audit. In April this year Mark Brown asked CBS to place the
vending
contract out to tender, the result was an annual saving of over
£30k. |
